Many of us try to follow the well-known health pillars of eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising for health. As far as exercise goes, there are typically two kinds of people—those who prefer to stay in the gym or an indoor facility and those who like hitting the pavement (or field) and engaging in outdoor activities. While physical fitness is important for everyone, the group that chooses to be outdoors has a great advantage over the indoor crowd—they are much less likely to be deficient in vitamin D. This essential vitamin is often overlooked, but it can be the missing component to overall health and wellbeing. Vitamin D is responsible for many critical functions of the body, from promoting strong bones and supporting immunity to maintaining hormonal balance and more.
