How Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Can Improve Arthritic Joint Pain

Estrogen is a very important hormone for women of all ages, but it can be especially crucial for middle-aged women. As women reach middle age, their estrogen levels start to fluctuate, increasing the potential for a host of medical issues. The most potent fluctuations occur during menopause, when a woman’s levels of both estrogen and progesterone drop drastically. The most common symptoms of menopause include night sweats, fatigue, hot flashes, and mood swings, but plummeting estrogen levels can cause or exacerbate a variety of others issues as well. Some of the more severe conditions correlated with menopause include osteoporosis, weight fluctuations, and even arthritis—that’s right; low estrogen levels can exacerbate joint stiffness and pain, often to an extremely debilitating degree. But if low estrogen caused the symptoms, it stands to reason that increased estrogen has the potential to alleviate them. At least, that was the hypothesis of researchers at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, who conducted a massive study to test their theory. Read more…
