It shouldn’t be surprising that low fat, low calorie diets that rely on processed foods are doomed to fail in the long term. That’s where detoxing, or changing eating habits to remove toxins in the diet, comes in. Detoxing can be a more sustainable way to achieve and maintain a healthy weight—if you choose the right one. Our bodies are programmed to function at their prime for the most part. But exposure to not only environmental toxins but to toxins that are present in the very foods we choose to eat can derail an otherwise well functioning system. While some processed foods may have an enticingly low number of calories, they do not usually deliver when it comes to our nutritional needs. The effect of many low calorie, low fat, and extremely processed foods on our bodies is not a very good one.
