Low libido affects more people with diabetes than those without. Diabetes can make you feel too tired to bother trying and even lead to depression about your lack of interest. In turn, these feelings of malaise may make your diabetes worse. It is important that you talk with your doctor if your diabetes is affecting your sex life. A lack of libido can affect your health as well as your relationships. Many doctors fail to tell newly diagnosed patients about the possibility of sexual health issues although they often tell them about many of the other health issues that can accompany diabetes. And many patients feel embarrassed, or don’t make the connection, about their lack of sexual interest and diabetes. Men with diabetes, especially those who are obese, tend to have low testosterone levels that affect their sex drive. Women are similarly affected by low estrogen.
